The synergy of UGM and KAGAMA was formed, once again, during the debriefing for prospective graduates of the postgraduate program. This event was held on Thursday (14/07) through Zoom Meeting. Approximately 400 prospective graduates attended the event.
Also attending the event was the Deputy Secretary General of PP KAGAMA, Prof. Wihana Kirana Jaya, M.Soc.Sc., Ph.D. He delivered his remark while marking the opening of the event. Prof. Wihana said we should be proud as KAGAMA because UGM produced great alumni globally. KAGAMA could also provide alumni engagement, which was significant for networking, role models, and social life.
“Once you are graduated, you must bear UGM values, vision, mission, and values in mind. Therefore, it is important to portray UGM alumni’s characteristics,” he explained.
Next in line was the Director of Partnership, Alumni, and Global Initiatives, Dr. Puji Astuti, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt. She launched SIMPONI UGM application, a communication media platform between alumni. Dr. Puji hoped that this application can accommodate alumni to communicate and establish good relations with friends from the same class, one department, and even one faculty.
The main event featured three speakers. They were Aloysius Kiik Ro as Deputy President Director of PT Hutama Karya (Persero), Danang Girindrawardana, S.I.P., M.P.A. who is the Independent Team for Bureaucratic Reform of the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform of the Republic of Indonesia, and Yushi Ismayudha, Chief of Corporate Support Officer of PT Cipta Krida Bahari. The discussion was moderated by Shoumi Damayanti, Deputy General Treasurer IV of PP KAGAMA.
Aloysius commenced his presentation by broadening participants’ view on how the future is full of uncertainty. For him, whenever he socializes is an opportunity. Therefore, he always emphasized giving the best and doing the best because what happens next can’t be predicted.
“I have always strived for the best since I was in university. Though frequently we could not be the number one, but the best part is how you can play your role and be meaningful,” he explained.
He also added that alumni must upgrade and reskill before securing a professional job due to the tight competition, which requires both academic and soft skills. Then mentally, alumni must have good integrity and ethics. Finally, he highlighted that both of them should be implemented, not only as theories. Then, if you have the excellent skills and attitude, you will be ready to tackle every opportunity.
Yushi Ismayudha seconded Aloysius words. During 28 years of work, Yushi noticed that some refused the challenges so they missed the opportunity to improve their quality.
“Courage is the key. No need to be afraid when you face a challenge. Take the positive side that it means we are chosen to show our potentials. Those who accept challenges have bigger opportunity to develop their careers,” said Yushi.
He believed that the challenge was given to the right person through many considerations. Given that, we must brace ourselves to accept due to the greater opportunity. It will then distinguish ourselves from others.
Like other speakers, Yushi also believed that integrity is part of ourselves. The rest was to defend ourselves because we knew what we did must be correct and proper. Integrity would eventually lead us to good habits.
Danang Girindrawardana also resonated the idea. A person’s quality is indeed determined once they graduated. Danang said UGM had created excellent graduates with good mentality.
” A person is considered excellent because others see them excellent and treated so,” said Danang.
It is a result of networking, one of which is KAGAMA. Therefore, networking becomes important to identify our capabilities.
Danang said that integrity and ethics become the main pillars aside of technical skills. Having a good mental attitude will be our bargaining point. It serves as basic value in the professional world when we create goals of life. By instilling integrity, our goal can contribute to the company, nation, and state.
“We must be people with high integrity, dedication, and effort. These should be nailed into the goal we set. But, the goal must also be based on good values,” he said.
This event was expected to provide insights, especially those brought to step into the professional world and contribute to society. Also, it served as a reminder that once graduated, alumni have to instil UGM values.
