Universitas Gadjah Mada, once again, hosted UGM Virtual Career Fair (VCF) 2022) for the June period. This event was the second career fair this year which will be held for three days.
The first day of UGM VCF on Tuesday (21/06) featured seven corporate partners and one government institution. Approximately 270 participants attended the event. Secretary of the Directorate of Partnerships, Alumni, and Global Initiatives, Wirastuti Widyatmanti, S.Si., Ph.D. opened the event. She mentioned that VCF goal was to ensure all students and alumni meet the needs of the current market.
“The demand is different compared to the past. Nowadays, graduates have to be ready to think multidisciplinary,” she said.
Besides, participants could gain a myriad of information and improve the skills’ quality, especially in designing career plans.
Next in line was a career class by DOKU, a technology-based payment system provider. Under the title “How to Prepare Yourself into a Professional Career World”, the class discussed the tips and preparation steps, particularly in finance. Following that, company profiles presentation and job vacancies information from PT Werkudara Spirit Indonesia, a company that runs in event organizing services. Then, it was continued with company profile presentation and work culture explanation at the bank which Permata Bank delivered.
The Provincial Manpower Yogyakarta also explained “Competitive and Fast Work Through Training, Internship, and Competency Certification”. In addition, he explained recent issues in getting a job, particularly for university graduates. In response to the challenges, the government initiated an internship program for those who are still students and those who have just graduated. Many benefits can be gained from the internship program. One of which is improving skills and broadening opportunities.
Next in line was a career class by Paragon Corp discussing R&D in the finance sector in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods industry and introducing how to FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) at Paragon. This company is one of the largest Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies in the cosmetic sector in Indonesia. After that, Outward Bound Indonesia, a formal educational institution dedicated to building student character, delivered the presentation.
Following that is another career class by Ofi Indonesia, a natural food and beverage provider. It discussed the world of marketing and the points that need attention when working in company, mainly marketing. Last was a career class delivered by PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk entitled “Making an Impact: Learn, Grow, Synergize, and Contribute to Indonesia”.
In addition to career classes and company profiles, partner companies also provide opportunities for participants, including internships, recruitment, and training. It is hoped that the participants will have the opportunity to explore their interests and try every opportunity given in this event.
