As an institution of higher education, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is committed to produce graduates that are qualified and able to compete globally. One of the efforts made is to intensively synergize with various parties, including industry players. This is to the learning methods development on campus so it can adapt to the demands required by the market and society.
As stated by Drs. Gugup Kismono, Executive Secretary of UGM Head Office in the event ‘Workshop and Focus Group Discussion: Strengthening Partnership to Improve Graduate Employability’, on Wednesday (26/4) morning.
“Responding to global challenges, universities and industries must join hands to create a competitive climate. This is an effort to support Indonesia to lead world’s changes in the next 50 years,” he said when giving a speech in Jogjakarta Room, Hotel Santika Premiere Yogyakarta.
The tight competition dynamics in the modern era also requires all parties including UGM to keep improving and creating innovations. For that, UGM also invited representatives of companies and university’s partner institutions to provide the necessary inputs. In addition, UGM would like to see partner industry’s level of satisfaction of UGM alumni who work in the company.
“This communication is important, especially to answer the perception in society that UGM alumni are less able to compete with those from other universities, so inputs from industry players are needed to improve the education system at UGM,” added Gugup.
The event which was attended by more than 50 invited guests lasted for two days until 27 April 2017. The discussion on the first day took the theme “The Relevance of Graduates Quality to the Needs of the Job Market”. While on the second day, the discussion focused on the theme of “Partnership for Strengthening Science, Technology, and Arts (IPTEKS) Development and Dissemination of Higher Education Innovation”.
Aside from university partners, this event invited the team of curriculum builders from 18 faculties and 2 schools in UGM. [Eggy]
