Yogyakarta, (15/5) – The Vocational School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SV UGM) held its eagerly awaited annual event, SVUGM Career Days. Taking place over two days, from Wednesday to Thursday, May 15-16, 2024, this event is designed to facilitate connections between job seekers and various institutions and companies seeking high-quality talent.
In his activity report, Dr. Faiz Zamzami, Manager of Cooperation, Training, and Career Development at SV UGM, stated that the main goal of the event is to bridge the gap between SV UGM graduates and other university graduates, particularly fresh graduates, with company partners. The event aims to help them secure jobs that meet their expectations, thereby reducing their waiting time for ideal job opportunities.
SVUGM Career Days target an attendance of 5,000 visitors over the two-day event. In his remarks, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Agus Maryono, IPM., ASEAN Eng., Dean of SV UGM, emphasized that vocational schools provide applied education with strong theory, effective solutions, and excellent practice. This career days event is held twice a year to build networks between institutional partners and SV UGM.
The SVUGM Career Days were opened by Dr. Arie Sujito, S.Sos., M.Si., Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni. In his speech, Dr. Arie stated that Career Days is not just about connecting the university with institutions but is also a moral responsibility for the university to ensure that graduates are not simply released into the workforce without assistance in overcoming the challenges and issues of the job market, as well as fostering creative and innovative ideas.
“We hope that Career Days will not merely connect the university with institutions. It is also a moral responsibility for the university to not just produce graduates and release them without helping to solve problems, but also to seek job opportunities and generate creative ideas,” said Dr. Arie.
He also emphasized that the concept of work has evolved, where alumni and students can network with each other. The Alumni Office is always ready to assist in this regard. With a large number of alumni, UGM is a valuable resource for addressing national issues. Through this event, it is hoped that collaboration between alumni and students will occur, optimizing their capacities while learning together.
SVUGM Career Days is expected to greatly benefit participants, both graduates and students, in finding career opportunities that match their expertise. With this event, it is hoped that more SV UGM graduates will achieve successful careers and become valuable contributors to the nation’s progress.
