Charismatic but still elegant and friendly, that was the first impression when we look at Mrs. Dr. Hendri Saparini in Graduation Debriefing for Bachelor Degree Period II Academic Year 2019/2019. This talkshow event was hosted by Mrs. Dr. Nurulia Hidayah, S.Pt., M.P., lecturer from Vocational School UGM as event moderator.
Mrs. Dr. Hendri Saparini, President Commissioner of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. told the graduates, “After you graduate from UGM, you are free to choose. You have to be brave and be responsible to your own choices. You must dare to show who you are.”
She is alumni of UGM Faculty of Economics and Business and also Chief Committee of State Own Enterprises (BUMN) Public Policy. She added more to her speech, “show them that you have discipline, you are a hard worker, and responsible for it. Do not make them feel fine with or without your presence.”
“Goals and dreams are not just about job position that we want to achieve, but how do we contribute to it,” she said in GSP, Tuesday (19/2). Dr. Hendri is also one of the 100 most influential women in Indonesia in 2012 and at first, she said that she wanted to be a researcher, then after she graduated from Faculty of Economics and Business UGM, she tried to accomplish her goals by being an analyst.
“I can be President Commissioner in Telkom because I still want to be an analyst which is my expertise. If we stay loyal to our field, we will able to make improvements, innovation, and advantageous repair for the company,” she added.
Dr. Hendri Saparini reminded the graduates about the existence of disruptive era which can ruin everything. There are many changes in the world now, either change in business environment, government policy, and so on, then in this era, we cannot stop to innovate. Moreover in this digital era, everything is digitalized.
Disruptive era will caused replacement of resources and it has chance to vanished. For example, in the past, people need to communicate through phone call, but now, we can communicate with people around the world through messenger application such as WhatsApp, Skype, and so on. This is the reason why we need to find another opportunity and innovation.
She also said that people centered economy is real, it is not just an illusion. This people’s economy is our strength. She expected UGM alumni to be able to accomplish its purpose by innovating, adding new value to our micro business products, for example make Geplak in Prambanan Temple shape as the symbol that Geplak is traditional culinary dish from Yogyakarta.
On her last speech on the event, she also said that it is better for a graduate to have language and Technology Information (TI) skills. “After graduate, please pick which path that you think it can help you to accomplish and achieve your goals. Remember that key to success is at the quality of the person itself, their personality, no matter what era it is.”
Regardless of all the things, Dr. Hendri also reminded the graduates to have national interest as UGM alumni, in wherever they may contribute.
“A person who does not have national interest will find it difficult to build awareness towards our nation. They will be easily taken by other countries and never want to return to their roots.” said Dr. Hendri as she closed the speech. [UGM Alumni Relation/Irzha; Photo: Wildan]
