A total of 7-8% of the workforce in Indonesia are university graduates, both public and private. Thousands of new graduates each year, creating tougher competition in the career world. This demands the graduates to prepare themselves to win the competition. One of the keys to do that is the ability to build high self-confidence in performing and showing capabilities.
As was presented by Dr. Agus Nurudin, Managing Director of Nielsen Indonesia, while attending as a speaker at the debriefing of Period II UGM prospective graduates of Bachelor and Diploma Programs at Graha Sabha Pramana (GSP), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), on Tuesday (15/2) afternoon.
“We must have high confidence. Because many failures occur simply due to our lack of confidence and ability to take advantage from opportunities,” said the alumnus of Faculty of Agricultural Technology.
According to Agus, UGM is a big institution that has produced many qualified graduates who are able to lead in many fields. UGM alumni’s success, can definitely be an inspiration and role models for other UGM alumni. “Going forward, UGM Alumni must also be able to compete at international level, to become ambassador to Indonesia on global level,” he said to the 1,800 graduating students in attendance.
To enrich the knowledge of prospective graduates, UGM also presented Rahadi Biwado, S.Si., M.M., President Director of PT Rahadi Suar Sinergi as a speaker. On the occasion, the alumnus of the Faculty of Geography talked much of his life journey and his reason for choosing entrepreneurship. Rahadi also advised, UGM alumni must have creative mind to be able to answer the challenges and problems in the vicinity.
“By taking the entrepreneurship road, we also create opportunities for the community,” he said.
Ani Widiastuti, S.P., M.P., Ph.D., Lecturer of the Faculty of Agriculture, who is the moderator at this debriefing, also managed to create a lively talkshow. Participants were listening with great enthusiasm to the explanation from both speakers presented. The enthusiasm was also apparent during the interactive discussion session with the number of questions from the graduating students.
