“Extra skill that is owned aside from those that were formed throughout your classes can be your added value to get the job you want or to be an entrepreneur. One of those extra skills is public speaking,” said I Made Andi Arsana, Ph. D., as the head of UGM Global Initiatives office, in his speech at Career Talks and Explorations seminar on Tuesday (1/11). With the theme ‘Public Speaking’ as the eighth series, the seminar that was held by UGM Subdirectorate of Alumni Relation invited Radju Manusamy that is the Chairman of Jebsen & Jessen Indonesia as a speaker.
Located in Seminar Room of UGM Central Library, this seminar was focused on increasing presentation skills. “The message of the presentation is important. But, it can be diminished by the way you deliver it. So, it is important to master presentation skill,” said Radju on the seminar that was attended by about 150 students.
No matter how simple is the presentation, it still needs a good planning before preparing and execution. Presentation’s ideas and scenario become substantial things because presentation is basically an important message with a structured delivery to a certain audience and also a certain goal. Aside from that, one thing that is not less important is to understand your audience and make a story line that is suitable for them.
After talking about presentation planning, he also talked about how to choose a good font and how to display the title. Not to forget he also mentioned tips on how to deliver your presentation in terms of voice. In doing presentations, you also have to think about the worst-case scenario that can happen during the presentation, such as easily-bored audience. Those are the kinds of things to consider to be successful in delivering presentation.
“We cannot satisfy everyone with what we have to present. Therefore, understand your baseline audience and set the key stakeholder, that is the main group of people objected by the message in your presentation,” said Radju closing the seminar that was held for three hours. [Eva]
