Comes with a new, fresher concept, Sub-directorate of Alumni Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a career seminar for UGM students and alumni. Different from the previous one which focuses on career exploration, this year, the seminar series that is called “Career Class and Alumni Sharing” (CCAS) will present a more specific theme with the presence of alumni from various career fields.
Initiated the seminar series in 2017, CCAS #1 brought the theme “Communication Industry” by presenting a Public Relation (PR) consultant of Maverick as a speaker. Attended by 150 students and alumni of UGM, the event, which took place on Tuesday (14/03) at the East Seminar Room of FISIPOL UGM examined all about communication industry and how to start a career in it.
“Keep up with the current news and lastest trends, know your client business and industry, maintain good relationship with journalist, and do not forget to pay attention to detail,” said Karen Kusnadi provided an overview of the communication industry competition.
In addition to those, another thing that is important is always to have fun. The communication industry is a world that is always in need of creativity and one effective way to get fresh ideas for our work, is to have fun. “Idea is the main thing. If you want a career in the communication world, then you must be willing to seek out a lot of references and do brainstorming,” advised Karen while talking about the challenges in the communication industry.
As the final session of CCAS #1, Khalda Larasati, who is also a PR consultant from Maverick gave tips on how to create a cover letter, CV, and how to send them through e-mail.
“Make unique CV and cover letter. Be yourself and Make Them represent yourself!” Said Khalda ending CCAS #1 which wa run from 09.00 until 12.00 am.
