ASEAN-European Meeting or ASEM for short is a form of cooperation between the countries in Asia and Europe that covers various fields, one of which is education. Through this AWP Program, UGM in the future will have the opportunity to send its students to do internships at various companies in European countries such as Germany and Belgium for a couple of months.
As conveyed by Dr. Paripurna, Vice Rector of Cooperation and Alumni UGM, this program is great and can be used to get to know other countries’ various work ethics.
“Knowing various characters and cultures of other countries will enrich experience, ASEM Work Placement is one opportunity to achieve it,” he said on his welcome speech.
Some universities in Indonesia have also participated in AWP 2017 program, among those are UGM, UI, UNPAD, UNHAS, UNDIP, UNS, ITS, UNBRAW, and BINUS Jakarta. This program is also fully supported by the Ministry of Reseach, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) of the Republic of Indonesia which keeps on supporting Indonesian students’ participation in the program each year.
Dr. Sandra Fikawati from Universitas Indonesia who became the coordinator of University Business Network (UBN) Indonesia said, the aim of this program is to pose as a medium to increase student mobility between Asian and European countries.
“For students, the presence of this program is to improve communication skills, build network, enrich competency in each field, and also to know other countries’ culture,” said Fika when asked to be a speaker.
Besides Fika, also presented as a speaker was Ms. Martina from UBN Germany. On the occasion, she recounted much about the things that have to be prepared before participating in AWP 2017 program; such as preparing the administration requirement to go to a European country, the recruitment process flow, to the overview of Germany community life.
I Made Andi Arsana, Ph.D, Head of Subdirectorate of International Affairs UGM, who was chosen to be the moderator, has managed to make the event that was held from 08.00 to 12.00 ran interesting and interactive. This was seen from the high enthusiasm of the participants with the many questions posed to the attending speakers.
