“Sweden is opening the opportunity for university graduates around the world to continue their master and doctoral studies there, this is a good opportunity for UGM alumni,” said Titi Holmgren from Nordic Student Service – Sweden in front of UGM students and alumni who attended the Multimedia Room, UGM’s Center Building, Monday (8/5).
The presence of Titi at UGM is within the framework of her roadshow to several universities in Indonesia to socialize the program “Study in Sweden”. The event which she initiated together with Subdirectorate of Alumni Relation UGM also aims to provide an overview and motivation to UGM academic community who is interested to continue their study abroad.
According to Titi, there are several reasons why Sweden is the ideal place to continue study abroad. One of them is the adequate educational facilities and infrastructure. This is due to the full support of the government that allocates most of the state budget for educational and research activities. Other than that, the enabling environment, social and political conditions of Sweden also strongly support the development of science and innovation optimally.
“All educational activities for citizens and immigrants are free from elementary school to university, even given some allowance, no exception for immigrants from outside Sweden,” said Titi.
Communication constraints such as language and living patterns of the community will not be a problem of significance according to her. For Sweden is known as a country with high tolerance value. The international climate is also strongly felt because most of the spoken communications in Sweden are in English.
In Sweden, there are many university options that accommodate almost all of the existing disciplines. Some of them are even ranked top in the worldwide higher education institutions ranking. Uniquely, each university has different discipline specifications but it does not affect the quality of the learning process. This is caused by the standardization for all educational institutions by the government, both state-owned and private.
“The registration system has been managed in an organized manner by the government making it all easier than any other country, including the time when we’ve temporarily settled there,” she added. [Eggy]
