Universitas Gadjah Mada never stops making breakthroughs in improving the quality of its graduates. Of the latest steps, one that is currently being prepared is the Graduate Employability Program. Through this program, UGM would like to invite alumni who have entered the career world to participate and provide inputs for the university in optimizing the academic activities required by the career world through online based surveys.
As conveyed by UGM Director of Partnership, Alumni, and Global Initiatives (DKAUI), Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, M.Si., M.Sc., in his opening speech on “Socialization of Graduate Employability Program Universitas Gadjah Mada” in Melati Room, Hotel Cakra Kusuma, Yogyakarta, Thursday (16/11).
“The main purpose of this program is to know and map the alumni distribution out there, we want to know in which agencies or companies do the alumni take shelter. At the same time we also seek inputs for improvement of the education system in accordance with the demands of today’s career world,” he said in front of the vice deans and faculty representatives as the invited guests.
According to Danang, the birth of this program is also inseparable from the spirit of the university to keep in touch with the alumni. The attention is certainly needed to strengthen the bond between alumni and their alma mater. Not only that, he also wants to ensure that UGM graduates are capable to always maintain a good reputation in the community and the places where they work.
“Currently UGM has already made major contributions to the country by putting its alumni in several strategic positions, there are 7 ministers, 71 eselon (echelon) 1 officials, governors, regents, mayors, not to mention CEOs, directors, and commissioners in state-owned and private companies. Going forward, we hope that there will be more potential alumni to be born,” he added.
Once the program launches, alumni will be required to fill in some data and information related to their job in the prepared online forms. This survey is still targeting for alumni of diploma and bachelor programs who dominate the entire alumni of UGM which now reach more than 300,000. In the future, this system will also be developed to accommodate alumni of other programs. [Eggy]
