The presentation of Malay traditional dance and ulos cloth welcomed the arrival of Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., at the Aryaduta Hotel Ballroom, Medan, Sunday (19/11). His presence is an effort to strengthen the relationship between UGM and its alumni in the Province of North Sumatra (Sumut) through the event titled “UGM Menyapa Alumni” (UGM Greet Alumni). The event that was attended by more than 200 UGM alumni of North Sumatra was held in cooperation between UGM, North Sumatra Gadjah Mada Alumni Family (KAGAMA) Regional Board (Pengda), and PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) I.
Through his speech, Prof. Panut gave high appreciation to UGM alumni who have contributed a great deal in developing the nation and the country, especially in North Sumatra Province. According to him, it is in line with the vision of UGM as a national university that is continuously committed to give its best contribution to Indonesia. That role, according to Prof. Panut, also continues to boost UGM’s reputation which is now recognized as a world-class university.
“Currently UGM is ranked 1st nationally and is included in the top 500 universities in the world, of course, all this can not be separated from the role of alumni, like alumni in North Sumatra. We thank you for your contribution,” said Prof. Panut.
UGM Menyapa Alumni is an agenda of Rector’s visit along with his staffs to various regions in order to strengthen the bond between alumni and their alma mater. Through this event, UGM wants to keep developing its network so that the result of higher education’s Tri Dharma implementation can be felt by the community. North Sumatra became the second region after West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) which was visited by UGM Rector in this program.
“In the future, this activity will continue to be developed, including visitation to other regions,” he said
The visit in North Sumatra is scheduled to last for three days. Saturday (18/11) night, the agenda is filled with dinner with North Sumatra Gadjah Mada Alumni Family Regional Board. On the last day, Monday (20/11), the entourage visited the location of KKN in Tomok Village, Samosir District which is in the direct guidance of PT Pelindo I under the leadership of Bambang Eka Cahyana, President Director, and M. Hamied Wijaya, Director of Human Resources and General. The two figures are UGM alumni. [Eggy]
