Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Ir. Basuki Hadimoeljono, M.Sc., Ph.D. motivated the new UGM prospective graduates in the “Debriefing of Graduates of Bachelor and Diploma Programs November 2017 Period” event that was held at Grha Sabha Pramana, Tuesday (21/11).

In his presentation, Basuki said that Indonesia is currently in need of experts from the younger generation. This is an effort to support the acceleration of government programs that are focusing on the equitable development of national infrastructure up to remote areas.

“Indonesia is a big country consisting of over 17,000 islands, various ethnic groups and cultural differences exist in them. To accelerate development and connectivity, we need many young experts who are ready to contribute to advance the country,” said the alumnus of Geological Engineering in front of more than 1,800 attending soon-to-be alumni.

He added that the graduation of students from Gadjah Mada campus should not be considered as the end of one’s duty as a learner, just the opposite, it is the beginning of the process of digging and increasing self-potentials in real life. Basuki also advised the prospective graduates not to easily forget UGM as their alma mater. “The virtue of UGM is the value of citizenship inherent in the education process, make sure that it is applied in alumni’s career in the future,” said Basuki.

Robby Alfino, S.T. a public speaking practitioner co-starred with Basuki to enrich the graduates’ insights. He shared many tips for young generation alumni to answer the challenges of today’s career which he thinks is different from when he was studying. According to the man who is familiarly called Obbie, one of the keys to easily determine a career is to follow one’s passion.

“Passion does not have to fit the field of science. When we have a creation and we can’t sell it then it will be useless. Find your passion to work and make your dreams come true,” says the alumnus of Architecture Engineering who is now taking a career as a professional MC. [Eggy & Eva]
