Not a few of the fresh graduates who choose to directly pursue a career feel the weight of undergoing their first job. Starting from the difficulty of interacting with colleagues and stress due to the given task. Indirectly, it turns into a burden so that the first working experience has a negative impression.
Yet according to Eko Suwanto, Bussines Manager of Jebsen & Jessen Technology Indonesia, the career world reality is indeed very different from the university atmosphere. This condition also often occurs due to the differences in views between the new employee and the company’s culture.
“Many problems will be faced, that’s the challenge. However, rather than expecting too much from the career taken, it is better to understand the characteristics of the career world and the expectation of company where we work,” he said when speaking at the “Career Management Seminar: How to Land Your First Job?” at the UGM Library Seminar Room on Wednesday (18/4).
Hopes to get sufficient financial condition, good social status, even a smooth career journey are always there in the fresh graduate’s mind. On the other hand, the company where the career is taken also has its own expectations for its employees to support the achievement of the company’s vision and mission.
“Understanding the career world is good for the foundation of pursuing a career in the future because success is never achieved instantly, we need to undergo a long process and it must be enjoyed from the beginning of the career,” he added.
In addition to providing the career world provision to UGM alumni and final year students, Eko was also present to introduce his company to UGM academic community. Moreover, Eko revealed that his company, Jebsen & Jessen Indonesia, which is a network of multinational companies based in Europe, is opening the work opportunity for UGM new graduates.
