Yogyakarta – One of the alumni Universitas Gadjah Mada communities, Kagama Virtual (KaVir) held a movie-watching “Sultan Agung” together. This activity was held to commemorate the 73rd Independence Day of Republic of Indonesia and also to share with ones who less fortunate. This movie is directed by Hanung Bramantyo and takes us back to the glorious era of Mataram Kingdom under the reign of Sultan Agung who managed to unite some kingdoms in Java and Madura. The dynamic of Mataram Kingdom among the existence of Nusantara kings and VOC (Vereenigde Oost-indische Compagnie) power is described very well. The strive of Mataram troops who succeed to surround and break into VOC’s fortress in Batavia which ends up to the death of J.P.Coen, VOC General Governor in 1629 was an incredible achievement back then.
Other than movie-watching together, the alumni also took a chance to raise scholarship funds for outstanding students who less fortunate, from the movie ticket price. A hundred of alumni UGM were watching the movie at Studio 3 Empire XXI on Saturday at 10.00 (25/8/2018).
Secretary General PP KAGAMA, A.A.G.N. Ari Dwipayana and Vice Rector of Partnership and Alumni UGM, Dr. Paripurna, S.H., M.Hum., LL. M., were also attending and excited about the activity. Dr. Paripurna expected that similar scholarship fundraising activity for less fortunate UGM students could be held routinely. UGM will always support those kind of activities.
A special things from this movie-watching, according to Dean of Vocational School UGM, Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., was that approximately 50% of “Sultan Agung” film special effect is done by CGI (Computer Generated Image) at the Vocational School of UGM Laboratory. [Irzha]
