The atmosphere in Grha Sabha Pramana Building (GSP) UGM that night felt warm and charming. A huge board at the stage was written ‘Malam Anugerah Insan UGM Berprestasi Tahun 2018’ with splendid lighting setting of the building and an amazing acoustic performance made the guests feel the specialty of the Alumni Awards 2018.
The event started at 19.30 WIB which previously preceded with gathering dinner and opened by dance performance from the UGM Students Dance Group which made the guests amazed. After that, the guests were asked to stand up and sing the national anthem Indonesia Raya and Hymne Gadjah Mada, and also prayer recitation were spoken to start the event as it has to go well.
Prior to the Alumni Awards 2018 nomination announcement session, there was submission of report by the vice rector and an opening speech by Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng.in GSP on Wednesday (14/11) “We would like to say thank you for achievements you have given to UGM because those achievements are UGM’s contribution to the people, nation, and country”
After Rector of UGM delivered his speech, the Alumni Awards 2018 Winners was announced. There are five nomination categories: Pelopor Pemberdayaan Daerah Tertinggal, Terdepan, Terluar (3T) (Pioneer of Empowerment of Disadvantaged, Foremost, and Outermost Areas), Pelopor Inovasi, Desain, dan Kreativitas (Pioneer of Innovation, Design, and Creativity), Pelopor Kewirausahaan (Pioneer of Entrepreneurship), Pelestari Budaya (Cultural Preserver), and Alumni Muda Berprestasi (The Young Achiever Alumni).
The winner of Pelopor Pemberdayaan Daerah Tertinggal, Terdepan, Terluar (3T) is dr. Jeanne Rini Poespoprodjo, Sp.A., M.Sc., Ph.D. as the Faculty of Medical, Public Health, and Nursing UGM alumna. She has done clinical research for 15 years in Malaria endemic areas in Timika, Papua and now, she is pediatrician in RSUD Kabupaten Mimika and the executive of Yayasan Pengembangan dan Kesehatan Masyarakat Papua.
Pelopor Inovasi, Desain, dan Kreativitas category is awarded to Dr. Agung Wahyu Susilo, S.P., M.P. the alumnus of Faculty of Agriculture. He is the initiator of the first cacao superior planting material innovation in Indonesia. His innovation has invented anti borers cacao clone and anti-Vascular-Streak Dieback (VSD) cacao hybrid which have become solution to cacao planting problem in Indonesia. This innovation has made him to be the Researcher and the Director of Indonesia’s Coffee and Cacao Beans Research Center.
The next category, Pelopor Kewirausahaan is awarded to R. Budi Utomo, S.IP., alumnus of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM who has plenty enterprises such as become the owner of Ani-Ani Jewellery, Wulu Merak Exclusive Jewellery, Nara Production, and ND Decoration. He is also the pioneer of emerging tourism villages in Yogyakarta, it has begun with Brayut Tourism Village which he has developed since 1999.
Culture Preserver Alumni category is given to Dr. Ir. Suporahardjo, M.Si. as the alumnus of Faculty of Forestry UGM. He has achieved plenty awards in culture field, such as Pelopor Jember Bangkit Bidang Seni dan Budaya (Pioneer of Rising Jember in Art and Culture) in 2016 and also Seniman Berprestasi terhadap Pengembangan Seni dan Budaya (Achieved Artist towards Art and Culture Development) in East Java, in 2016. He also has risen the local economy with the emerging of creative craft, culinary, and homestay groups called Tanocraft.
The last category, Alumni Muda Berprestasi was awarded to the alumnus of Faculty of Agriculture majoring in Fishery, Risyanto Suanda, S.Pi., M.Si., who has already become the President Director of Perum Perikanan Indonesia at such a young age. Some other achievements he already achieved such as become the Best CEO in Revolusi Mental Awards 2018 BUMN Track and a founder of plenty enterprises.
