The New York Graduate Plan, Nonviolence International and the United Nations developed a common vision of giving young students the opportunity to become agents of change who are dedicated to the successful fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals on the horizon of the 2030 Agenda set forth by the United Nations. The New York Graduate Plan functions as two parts under one program.
-The first part consists of Diplomatic training on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and will be provided at the United Nations headquarters through political speakers, professors of prestigious universities, and members of the private sector. Access to the UN will be provided without the requirement of standard eligibility criteria of the UN, and a diploma which validates the instruction received and skills acquired will be awarded at the end of the internship.
-The second part consists of practical application and will implement the first part. This part will be conducted under the supervision of Nonviolence International New York. This NGO benefits from a freedom of action and from a legitimacy through its status as an expert on the United Nations Economic and Social Council to train the students to become true ambassadors of these principles.
Through this framework, students will be required to use their learned skills and knowledge to create and share workshops for the school system of New York City. They will be asked to apply their knowledge of peacebuilding, non-violent action, and non-violent communication as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.
In this way, the students of the program will become true ambassadors of the NYGP and the SDGs, and they will be in a position to spread their knowledge with others, creating an endless cycle of young ambassadors of peace. In addition they will become eco-responsible citizens with new awareness of environmental, economic, and social issues as well as their role to play in the transformation of these issues.
In the framework of this program, students will:
•Advocate both inside and outside the United Nations
•Immerse themselves in a multinational context
•Participate up close in the world of the NGO and the UN
•Actively familiarize themselves with global issues that we are confronted with today
•Work towards sustainable solutions to these problems through creative ideas and innovative projects
•Receive a diploma from the United Nations
•Become ambassadors of youth for peace
•Perfect and complete their school year through an internship
The NYGP will open its doors in January of 2020, and offers three trimesters per year, where each semester will be composed of 35 to 50 students
-Mid-September to Mid-December
-Mid-January to Mid-April
-Mid-May tp Mid-August
Nonviolence International New York is looking for grants for this program. The financial cost of the training is $6,000. The students will be responsible for their own costs of housing, food, transportation, and J1 visa for interns/trainees. For this, the NGO will take steps to collect all the necessary documentation to obtain the visa.
