Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) through the Vocational Development Center (VDC) UGM Vocational School once again held a job fair & carrier expo in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower (KEMNAKER) and the Office of Manpower and Transmigration of the Yogyakarta Special Province. The event which was held on October 8th-10th brought more than 7,000 visitors over 3 days.
Present at the event was the Vice-Chancellor of UGM in the Field of Cooperation and Alumni, Dr. Paripurna, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., Deputy Dean for Cooperation, Alumni, and Strategic Planning of Vocational Schools (SV), Radhian Krisnaputra, S.T., M.Eng., Expert Staff of the Minister of Manpower, Drs. Suhartono, M.M., and the Deputy Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, represented by the Expert Staff of the Yogyakarta Governor in the Field of Law, Government, and Politics, Drs. Umar Priyono, M.Pd. as well as giving a speech for the opening event.
Dr. Paripurna said that the target for cooperation with industry was the university’s effort to shorten the waiting period of work for graduates. Through this event, universities can find out the needs and criteria desired by the company.
The next speech was delivered by the Expert Staff of the Minister of Manpower, Drs. Suhartono, M.M. Drs. Suhartono said that one way to reduce unemployment, especially for millennials, is by providing a forum for graduates who already working in a company to be able to describe the company profile and the code of ethics of employment for graduates who are looking for work.
“The world of the industrial revolution 4.0 is all digital. It takes synergy with one another between the company and the HR provider in order to meet the company’s needs,” he said.
Suhartono also added that now there are many millennials who are looking for jobs according to their passion. Some of them might open their own businesses or start a joint venture with colleagues.
Drs. Umar Priyono, M.Pd. revealed that today’s universities not only provide formal education but also contribute to providing human resources who are equipped with knowledge about the world of work. In line with this, Radhian revealed that the UGM Vocational School has a standard of graduates who are ready to enter the workforce.
This year’s carrier expo event was attended by around 120 companies and 8,000 job vacancies aimed at helping graduates and prospective graduates from various universities in Yogyakarta to get jobs. Some companies hold direct recruitment and interviews for applicants.
