The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (KEMLU) in collaboration with the Sub Directorate of Alumni Relations at the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Diplomat Profession Socialization and Selection for Acceptance of Prospective Civil Apparatus (CASN). The event, which presented by hundreds of participants from various universities, was held at the Auditorium of FISIPOL UGM Building BB 4th Floor, FISIPOL UGM on Monday (10/21).
This activity was opened by remarks from Dr Sulistyowati, S.S., M.Hum., as Head from the Sub Directorate of Alumni Relations. In his remarks, Sulistyowati said that this opportunity was very rare considering that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs only received a small number of state civil servants each year. In addition, this socialization is also a starting point for students and alumni to be able to prepare themselves before participating in the recruitment process which will be held in November.
The next program was the presentation related to the diplomat profession and the selection process for the admission of candidates for state civil servants who were delivered directly by Jati Heri Winarto as the Head of the Appreciation, Discipline, and Administration Staffing Department. In addition to outlining the duties and functions of diplomats in general, Jati also said that many positions at KEMLU open vacancies and are placed not only in Indonesia but also abroad.
Almost the same as CASN selection in general, the KEMLU selection process also goes through administrative selection, basic competency selection, and field competency selection. The applicants are expected to be able to know and understand the latest issues both regionally and internationally as a provision in answering questions. In addition, an understanding of Indonesia covering history and ideology is also important as a basis for taking a series of KEMLU tests.
In addition to academic ability, Jati added that non-academic abilities such as problem-solving, art skills, and the delivery of creative ideas also became additional points in the recruitment assessment. There is a passing grade in each field competency test and the screening of applicants will be determined from the overall accumulation.
“KEMLU is looking for the best of the best, not the best of the rest,” he said in front of participants from various educational backgrounds.
KEMLU has spread at least more than 1,000 diplomats throughout the world with a variety of different educational backgrounds. UGM itself has scored hundreds of ASNs at KEMLU that have had careers both abroad and domestically.
After presentation by Jati, the program continued with question and answer session. The enthusiasm of participants can be seen from so many questions asked about the recruitment process and also the specific criteria that were considered by KEMLU considering that KEMLU was always synonymous with an international political background. Various tips were delivered by the KEMLU staff who attended the event. After the question and answer session, the event ended with handing over placards by both parties and a group photo with the participants.
UGM has many graduates with educational backgrounds and criteria that are in line with the needs of KEMLU. Therefore, it is also expected that interested ones can prepare administrative documents to enrich their knowledge and non-academic abilities for future recruitment
