UGM and KAGAMA, collaboratively conducted debriefing for prospective bachelor and diploma Graduates 2021 period on Tuesday (16/02) through the Zoom Meeting Room. Approximately a thousand participants were attending this event.
Prof. Dr. Paripurna, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., Vice Rector for Cooperation and Alumni, congratulated all prospective graduates in his welcoming speech. He also said that graduates in this pandemic era are actually more resilient since they successfully completed their study through various limitations.
Furthermore, the Head of Division III PP KAGAMA, Ir. Putut Ariwibowo, said that the graduates will face many new life challenges after this graduation. “You represent a changing generation as mental toughness is required to reach this graduation. You completed your studies in this changing world,” he said.
Ir. Ignatius Tallulembang, Former CEO of PT Kilang Pertamina International and Drs. Kukuh Syaefudin Achmad, M.Sc., Head of the National Standardization Agency for Indonesia, were the speakers in this event. Also acting as the moderator was Dr. Rudiati Evi Masitoh, S.T.P., M.Dev.Tech., Lecturer at Faculty of Agricultural Technology. The speakers, who were UGM alumnus, shared tips on starting a career and becoming a successful leader.
“There are four concerns to be ready in working world and to deal with various problems. The first is having a vision. Second, you have to practice. Thirds is hope, and last is setting your goals,” said Ir. Ignatius commencing his presentation.
During his 31 years of working at PT Pertamina, he instilled CIPS’s spirit (Change, Innovation, Professional, and Speed.) Change because everyone has to change as the world is changing continuously. Innovation, there must be continuous innovation to increase competitiveness at the company level and at a higher level. Professional includes a combination of competence and integrity, and last is speed, which is very important. Never ever postponing our work because the clock is always ticking.
Following Ir. Ignatius, Drs. Kukuh Syaefudin Achmad, M.Sc. shared more advices. He said, “be the fastest and the one who gets much information.”
“The winner is those who get more and earlier information,” said the alumnus of Faculty of Pharmacy.
In this era, when the internet is everywhere, it is much easier for graduates to seek information. Not only being IT literate, but the graduates must also care enough about their workplace and the surrounding. Eventually, the career path will open its way.
Kukuh also said that being a leader does not mean only giving suggestions. A leader must be a role model as it is more effective than thousands of suggestions.
Obviously, it is not an easy short journey to be a big company leader, especially when we start from zero. Besides sharing advice to get a job, the speakers also deliver information regarding company organizational and the industry needs.
This event is expected to provide the graduates with a clear view of anything they have to prepare for their job. Graduates, in this pandemic era, will undoubtedly face greater challenges. Therefore, a bold character is needed to compete fairly.
