Universitas Gadjah Mada through the Directorate of Partnerships, Alumni, and Global Initiatives, hosted a webinar entitled “Want to Join a Certified Independent Study and Internship Program?” on Saturday (26/6) via Zoom Meeting Room. More than 300 participants enthusiastically attended this event. This activity was hosted by Dr. Muhsin Al Anas, S.Pt., a lecturer at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Coordinator for the Certified Internship Program and Independent Study Program of Kampus MerdekaUGM.
The program aims to prepare final-year students for their careers. It is expected that students will hone their skills, build networks, and gain knowledge from top companies. Also, their experiences will be converted to grades in their acaademic transcript.
Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, S.Si., M.Sc., Director of Partnerships, Alumni, and Global Initiatives hoped that all participants could gain myriad of information in this session.
“It is a hope and also an opportunity to find out how to compete in future work. You will not only upgrade your skills but you will also experience the working environment in the company,” he said.
Nurhadi Irbath, Head of the Microcredential Sub-Working Team of the Ministry of Education and Culture, explained that the programs promoted by the Ministry of Education and Culture is to prepare graduates to compete immediately after graduation.
Nurhadi said that our world has changed, so has the working rhythm due to automation, big data, AI, and so on. This program helps students to recognize the work culture before they secure the actual job. The program was designed to ensure that the students will contribute directly to the company.
For example, the company must provide real project collaboration that allows the intern to be involved directly in company projects and impact the company. Also, they must prepare a learning path or syllabus which tracks the intern’s work.
Next in line was Nika Woelan, Partnership Relations Division of the Microcredential Sub-Pokja Team of the Ministry of Education and Culture. She explained the requirements. She mentioned that first thing first the company would look at is the intern’s will and ability. They have to have the will to work hard and change. Also, they will look at the intern’s leadership, designing-ability, and communication.
“As for the internship, forging their interest, personality, and work attitude are the top priority”, she said.
Not a cent is spent for this program. Also, the recruitment process will be held by the corporate partners. Therefore, it was expected that participants would register to this program to train themselves and build strong character before securing the job.
