The synergy between UGM and KAGAMA was again shown at the Debriefing for Prospective Graduate Period of July 2021. The event was held on Tuesday (13/7) through the Zoom Meeting Room and Youtube-live streaming. Hosting the event was Dr. Muhsin Al Anas, S.Pt., Lecturer at the Faculty of Animal Science, UGM.
Head of Division 6 PP KAGAMA, Anak Agung Gede Putra, in his remarks, welcomed all prospective graduates to become a migunani society, as one of KAGAMA’s principles. Migunani is Javanese term to show that as a person, we have to be useful.
“Let’s be a helpful person because society will measure our usefulness if we want to grow and also present ourselves in the society”, he said.
Rivan Achmad Purwantono, President Director of PT Jasa Raharja and also an alumnus of the Faculty of Philosophy, kickstarted his presentation by emphasizing the importance of being a winner. The prospective graduates are lucky people as they have a great opportunity to study in a good university and to plan the future.
He then shared his career track until his current position, and he highlighted that being initiative is a must.
“Success does not come overnight. It requires good planning”, he said.
Following that, he shared helpful tips to reach the peak of his career in front of more than 500 prospective graduates. One of which is to pressure ourselves and having confidence. It will then lead us to dare to dream and control ourselves. He hoped that after graduating, participants would be sociable, build network with many people, serve, be useful for the surrounding, and be self-sufficient.
Graduation is not the finish line instead it is a new gate to a new world. Therefore, UGM alumni should never stop learning. When someone out there can do something, there’s no need to be jealous because we can learn from them. Do not bother with the problems, but focus on creating doors of opportunities.
“On top of that, the key is discipline. It bridges the goals and achievements. Should you be discipline, success is an inch away,” he concluded.
Next in line was Dr. R. Mahelan Prabantarikso, S.E., Ak., M.B.A., Director of Compliance and Human Resources of PT Asuransi Jiwasraya (Persero). He kickstarted his presentation by explaining the impact of the pandemic on the Indonesian economy. Most of the business sectors experienced negative growth, such as the tourism sector. However, several other sectors had actually improved both in supply and demand, such as information and communication. Health and pharmaceuticals are also increasing significantly, especially on the demand side.
Following that, he shared what we need to adapt during the pandemic era. First, we need to understand the problem and bring up new perspectives. Then, we link all the information to find the best solution. Second, we need to synergize and work together productively, regard other perspectives, and create competitive advantages. Third, we need to show empathy in our communication; clearly, and transparently. The last is developing new ideas, being responsive, being open-minded to new perspectives, and creating new innovations.
In line with Rivan, he emphasized that being an initiative person is a mandatory competency for prospective graduates to pursue their careers. On top of that, building a network is also a must. Many people achieve their success due to their continuous network building. Besides, we also have to shape our characters, including integrity, good interpersonal skills, strong leadership. Not to mention also the ability to market our ideas and products.
“UGM alumni must have vision, passion, action, and collaboration to fully implement their knowledge,” he concluded.
This event was expected to provide prospective graduates with myriad information before finding employment. Character building is significant so that they are able to compete in the current era. Given that, the speakers well-explained the preparation needed before securing a job.
