The second series of UGM Career Preparation Camp 2021 brought the theme “The Next Chapter Begin”. This event was conducted on Friday (24/9) through the Zoom Meeting Room. This session explored deeper on “Essential Kits for Recruitment Process”.
Resonating the previous event, the trainers, Andika Octavianto, S, Psi., and Novanda Fatih, S.Psi., explained CV, which is the very first impression of the recruiters.
During recruitment, the recruiters will only read each applicant’s CV for only 7 seconds. Given that, a good and eye-catching CV is needed to attract the recruiters. We need a strategy to structure the vital information to attract recruiters and encourage them to look deeper. The layout, content, and font type are significant to catch the recruiter’s eye.
Done with the CV overview, all participants were put in a breakout room to gain a more profound explanation and followed up with a smaller breakout room. In the small breakout room, the participants give feedback to each other based on the explained material.
Some items are mandatory in writing a CV. For example, it is a must write personal identity at the beginning, such as name, mobile phone number, email address, address. Then, it is followed up by the profile, education, and work experiences. Next, we should highlight our skills, activities, and hobbies. On the contrary, we could also add other items. For instance, we could write our awards, achievements, volunteering experience, certifications, publications, training, conferences, and other relevant items. Nevertheless, we should only write items that support the job applied and strengthen our capabilities.
In this session, the trainers also explain how to distinguish between CV and resume. They noted that a CV includes a list of experiences in detail, while a resume is a summary of a CV. However, both of them are used interchangeably.
Aside from CV writing, the speaker also provided some information regarding the interview. For example, the common questions such as job responsibility, the challenges, and key performance index. Also, they give some tips for applying for a job through email. During the pandemic era, many companies open recruitment through email. Given that, we have to pay attention to some detail. For instance, we need to use a formal email address (containing real name), the email must have a subject that is in line with the content, provide a signature, and also, we should attach a resume and cover letter. We should also bear in mind to greet formally and briefly explain our goal in the body email.
It is expected that this event could provide a myriad of information in structuring the CV and prepare the participants to pursue a career in the future.
