Directorate of Partnerships, Alumni, and Global Initiatives UGM hosted a “Sharing Session and Dissemination of Internship and Independent Study Program, Kampus Merdeka (Independent learning) 2022 ” on Thursday (06/01) through Zoom Meeting Room and broadcasted on YouTube. Approximately 190 participants attended the event.
Director of Partnerships, Alumni, and Global Initiatives, Dr. Puji Astuti, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt., said that the participants were expected to gain a myriad of knowledge to prepare them for internship and independent study application, which is a part of Kampus Merdeka (Independent Learning).
This event featured the alumni of the program; Ongky Suherman Heng, student of Geological Engineering, Zulfa Pramita Ramadani, student of Economics, Diatri Rahima Adristi, student of Engineering Physics, and Jamalul Lail, student of Animal Science and Industry. They shared their experiences from the selection process to the acceptance in the companies they targeted. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Abdillah Siddiq, S.T. and Dr. Muhsin Al Anas, S.Pt.
They took this program to gain new experiences and implement the knowledge acquired in the university. On top of that, they wanted to experience first-hand the environment of the professional world. For instance, Ongky had the opportunity to create integration and automation of Microsoft and Power BI. Meanwhile, Diatri, an intern at PT Indonesia Power, was also involved as a job shadowing technician to write daily, monthly, and final reports during her internship.
Next, Zulfa shared her experience taking independent study at the Export School. As a result, she acquired knowledge about exports, including how to grab opportunities and to get the marketplace. She also learned how to package and market the products. Another intern student was Zulfa, who conducted her internship at PT Berau Coal. She, then learned that the mining field is not limited to engineering but also in many other fields such as managing livestock farming in the post-mining area.
During the program, they learned many things from the obstacles they encountered such as time management, the papers, or dealing with superiors or co-workers. Nevertheless, they acquired many benefits, such as honing soft and hard skills, problem solving, wages, and a wide network.
The event was then followed by a question-and-answer session between participants and speakers. Participants, especially third-year students and above, are expected to take part in an internship program or independent study at partner companies. In addition to contributing to the success of the MBKM program, students are also equipped to experience the professional world, which later will be beneficial after graduation.
