The Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a meeting with several UGM alumni living and working in Hong Kong on Sunday (28/1). The meeting aimed to explore potential collaborations between UGM and various institutions in Hong Kong, as well as discuss the possibility of conducting international community service (KKN) in the country.
The meeting was attended by several UGM alumni, including an alumnus working at BRI Regional Hong Kong and Macau, who could serve as a bridge for cooperation in finance and banking between UGM and the institution. Another alumni works at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, offering opportunities for collaboration in research and knowledge development. Additionally, an alumni involved in a non-governmental organization (NGO) could facilitate partnerships between UGM and social institutions in Hong Kong.
The UGM Rector highlighted the crucial role of alumni in expanding the university’s network of collaborations and promoting UGM’s reputation internationally. This meeting also provided an opportunity for UGM to strengthen ties with the alumni community in Hong Kong and identify mutually beneficial cooperation opportunities.
Furthermore, the discussion included the potential for implementing an international KKN in Hong Kong. With UGM alumni active in NGOs and the potential cooperation with the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, the feasibility of carrying out international KKN in the city has increased. Such a program would offer valuable international experience for UGM students while contributing to community development abroad.
The UGM Rector expressed deep appreciation for the dedication and contributions of UGM alumni in Hong Kong. It is hoped that this meeting will mark the beginning of sustainable and mutually beneficial collaborations between UGM and institutions and alumni in Hong Kong.
