Medan (12/5) – Roughly 300 alumni of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) from North Sumatra gathered at the KAGAMA North Sumatra Reunion held in the 10th-floor Ballroom of PT Bank Sumut in Medan. The event aimed to strengthen relationships among alumni and discuss collaborative efforts to support UGM in becoming a catalyst for developing superior human resources with global competitiveness.
The event was attended by Acting Governor of North Sumatra Hassanudin, Chairman of KAGAMA North Sumatra Regional Board Mulianta Sitepu, Mayor of Pematangsiantar Susanti Dewayani, Regent of Pakpak Bharat Franc Bernhard Tumanggor, former North Sumatra Provincial Secretary Muhyan Tambuse, and UGM alumni from North Sumatra.
UGM Rector Prof. Ova highlighted the importance of the alumni’s role in achieving this goal. She revealed that UGM has launched UGM Online, an online course platform that allows students to take credit-bearing courses and earn specific degrees. Prof. Ova invited all alumni to contribute to education by teaching on the platform. This collaboration is expected to enrich educational content and provide students with the opportunity to learn from practitioners in various fields.
In support of developing superior human resources, Prof. Ova also emphasized the importance of collaboration between alumni and practitioners in the field of education. She urged practitioners and alumni to join efforts to improve the quality of education at UGM. By sharing knowledge and experience, practitioners can make significant contributions to students and enhance the relevance of the curriculum to industry needs.
“We invite alumni to contribute to education in the future. UGM Online is also open to corporations and alumni who want to provide teaching. I hope that this collaboration and synergy will make UGM an accelerator in developing superior human resources with global competitiveness,” concluded Prof. Ova.
During the event, Prof. Ova also encouraged alumni to utilize LinkedIn as a platform to strengthen the KAGAMA network. Through LinkedIn, alumni can connect with the professional world and increase career opportunities. Prof. Ova hopes that by having LinkedIn profiles, UGM alumni can connect and expand networks that can support their career development.
At the same event, an MOU and PKS signing ceremony related to career development for students and graduates was held. Babay Parid, President Director of Bank Sumut, welcomed the collaboration between UGM alumni and KAGAMA in supporting the development of superior human resources with global competitiveness. Additionally, Joko, a UGM alumnus focusing on microbiology, offered assistance in providing internships for students. He is committed to helping identify potential students in North Sumatra who can enter UGM and offering them opportunities to develop skills through relevant internship programs. This collaboration is expected to provide practical experience for students and expand their networks in the professional world.
Acting Governor of North Sumatra, Hassanudin, also welcomed the cooperation between KAGAMA North Sumatra and the provincial government. He appreciated the active role played by alumni in various social activities in the region. Hassanudin hopes that the synergy between UGM alumni and the provincial government will be further enhanced so that its benefits can be felt by the wider community.
At the end of the event, the Chairman of KAGAMA North Sumatra, Mulianta, expressed his gratitude for the presence of all participants and appreciated the collaborative spirit shown by UGM alumni. He emphasized the importance of KAGAMA’s role in various social activities felt by the community.
The KAGAMA North Sumatra Reunion successfully created a strong momentum of collaboration among UGM alumni in North Sumatra to support the development of superior human resources with global competitiveness. With this collaboration, it is hoped that UGM can become an accelerator in the development of superior human resources capable of competing on a global scale.
