The Alumni Office of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) collaborated with Nestlé Indonesia to hold a “Career Preparation Class” (CPC) on Monday (August 5) at the Multimedia Room 1 of the UGM Central Building. This event aims to empower young talent across Indonesia and create a positive impact for new graduates to be ready to enter the professional world.
Yulia Irwanti, Talent Acquisition Partner at Nestlé, explained that this program is part of the initiative “building a future-ready diverse, and inspiring workforce that is a force for good” promoted by Nestlé. “We hope that every program we create can be beneficial for both the environment and young people. Our three pillars are work, grow, and make an impact,” said Yulia.
The main speaker at this event was Maruli Sitompul, a Sustainability Delivery Manager at Nestlé and a 1997 UGM alumnus. Maruli started his career at Nestlé through the NMT Technical program in 2002.
This CPC discussed an overview of presenting in public, strategies for a great presentation (deliver, engage, design), as well as tips and examples of good presentations.
The importance of presentation skills in the workplace, includes presenting project progress, business proposals, sales updates, training, monthly business updates, and reporting. The three key elements in a good presentation are content, design, and delivery, said Maruli.
“We need to know what the audience needs, their knowledge level, how they feel about the topic to be presented, and the purpose of the presentation,” explained Maruli.
The CPC organized by the UGM Alumni Office and Nestlé Indonesia is a continuous effort to prepare students and new graduates to enter the professional workforce. This aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 8 on decent work and economic growth, particularly concerning increasing employment opportunities for young people.
In the future, CPC will continue to be developed and adjusted to the current needs of students and alumni so that they are increasingly prepared and competitive in entering the workforce. The collaboration between UGM Alumni Office and Nestlé Indonesia is expected to have a positive impact on improving the employability of the young generation in Indonesia.
