The Chemical Engineering alumni of the 1985 batch (Tekagama 85) have launched an educational innovation by inaugurating a newly renovated classroom named ‘Power Catalyst 85’. This classroom is the result of a renovation of Room 102 in the Department of Chemical Engineering (DTK) at UGM. The event, held on Friday, May 4, also included a halal bi-halal and a meeting between DTK FT UGM and Tekagama.

Present at the event were Ahmad Tawfiequrrahman Yuliansyah, Head of DTK FT UGM, and Budiyana, Chairman of Tekagama. Additionally, as the renovation of Room 102 was supported by Toyota Indonesia (PT TMMIN) and Petrokimia Gresik, Nandy Yulianto, CEO of PT TMMIN, was also in attendance.

During the launch, Edi Wibawa, Coordinator of Tekagama 85’s Community Service, explained that the Tekagama 85 alumni contributed to updating Room 102 to make it more comfortable with an elegant design, new-style classroom seats, and multimedia equipment. The renovation aims to support students in their learning process and facilitate the progress of DTK FT UGM.”

“This is our (Tekagama 85 alumni’s) contribution to the advancement of DTK FT UGM and support for the students’ learning,” Edi Wibawa said to Kedaulatan Rakyat (KR) during the launch event on Friday night (May 4, 2024).

The role of alumni such as Sahabat UGM is crucial to the success of such events. Sahabat UGM has contributed in various forms, including non-monetary support. This support encompasses campus facilities like reference books, laboratory equipment, campus bicycles, campus vehicles, buildings, and other resources to support both academic and non-academic activities.

In this context, the launch of the ‘Power Catalyst 85’ classroom by Alumni Tekagama 85 is a concrete example of how UGM alumni are involved in advancing quality education. By contributing to the renovation of the classroom and providing better facilities, they support the progress of the alma mater and assist students in their learning process. The collaboration between alumni, the community, industry, organizations, and other relevant parties through Sahabat UGM is a key factor in improving educational quality at UGM and realizing the vision of quality education.

“We certainly cannot manage all of this forever, so we are starting to pass it on to younger alumni,” said Budiyana, Chairman of Tekagama, concluding the interview with KR.

It is hoped that through educational innovations such as the ‘Power Catalyst 85’ classroom launched by Alumni Tekagama 85 and with support from Sahabat UGM, UGM will continue to improve the quality of education and provide the best learning experiences for students. The collaboration between alumni, the community, industry, and other stakeholders provides a strong foundation for the university’s development and strengthens the bond between alumni and their alma mater.
